On Feb. 24, 2022, Russia launched a widespread military operation against Ukraine. The fighting spread to towns across Ukraine, forcing hundreds of thousands of people to flee. Many made their way to the Polish-Ukrainian border. The wave of refugees led to chaotic conditions in the border area. Sometimes people had to hold out for several days in cold winter temperatures until they could cross the border. Caritas Poland provides humanitarian help for refugees.
