RENACER staff distributing vaccines to Paravets of the communities in Chiquimula.
RENACER (restoring nutrition and food security in communities of the east and north of Guatemala) introduces a combination of agricultural interventions that help families continue to recover from the acute emergency they are experiencing, acquire assets that will support a sustained recovery and build their capacity to reduce and manage future risks related to drought and inconsistent rainfall.
Through RENACER, CRS and their local partners Cáritas Zapaca and Cáritas Alta Veparaz will support 45,000 participants between May 2021 and July 31, 2022 through community-led disaster risk reduction activities in the departments of Alta Verapaz and Chiquimula in the Dry Corridor.
One of the components of the project is training and certifying Paravets who can provide accessible last-mile services to protect livestock assets. In December 2021, RENACER was able to get an in-kind donation of vaccines, as part of a collaboration with the National Poultry Health Program (PROSA). The project received a total 1,260 bottles to prevent 3 types of disease in poultry: Fowl Pox, Newcastle and Fowl Cholera. The donation value is of $5,478. This is the first time a project has this type of collaboration with PROSA and receives this type of in-kind donation that will be of great help for the project RENACER and RAÍCES.
