Yasinta Amsi, Saramay Hill catchment committee secretary, stands in a ridge that her community constructed to prevent soil erosion in Karatu, Tanzania. The erosion had become such a problem that it carved huge ravines that separated neighbors at the bottom of the hill and flooded homes. The Catholic Relief Services' funded ridging and contouring of the hill was done by the local community and helps protect the hill from future erosion while helping redirect rainfall into underground aquifiers.
