A Malian refugee uses a tippy-tap hand washing station installed by CRS in a refugee camp in Niger. Since conflict broke out between Islamist rebels and the Malian government in the north of the country in early 2012, thousands of men, women and children fled their homes for safety in neighboring Niger and Burkina Faso. In Niger, CRS assists them with food, shelter, clothing, health and other essential services.
In addition to the refugee households, CRS is helping some of the most vulnerable households in the local population, reducing the potential tension between hosts and refugees.
