The CRS-supported Adieaero Watershed Development Program is implemented by the Mekelle branch of the Adigrat Catholic Secretariat in northern Ethiopia to help improve food security for thousands of rural families. An important part of the program is building irrigation canals to enable farmers to grow vegetables that can be sold at a premium, often to restaurants. The Chelekot irrigation scheme irrigates 105 hectares, assisting 450 farming families. At the scheme's source, a cement structure with diversion gates enable villagers to divert water from the river into the scheme's canals.
